Project #1

Hypothesis: Solubility of the floating solid at the gas-water interface is related to reaeration rate.

Approach: Using glucose as a floating solid, conducted laboratory experiments and developed a relationship between solubility and reaeration rate.

Rearation Measurments

Project #2

Hypothesis: Although there is an abundance of models and field data, they are not effectively used; combining model predictions with field data will improve estuarine water quality management.

Approach: Recursive estimation technique Kalman filter was used to combine model predictions with field measurements; defined a term trace of estuary; used Potomac estuary as a case study; and found that the number of water quality monitoring stations can be reduced from twelve to five.
